Sergeant Alva Harvey, 23, was mechanician of the Seattle. He maintained Martin's airplane at Chanute Field before being chosen. Raised on a farm in Texas, he was fearless, skilled, sturdy, and strong. His strength and perseverance saved both their lives after the crash when the older Martin weakened.
